“Five years in the making, Orange Tulip Conspiracy is finally here. A band that Jason Schimmel (Estradasphere, Secret Chiefs 3) formed and has been composing and producing for with the help of over a dozen amazing musicians from the L.A., Bay Area and Seattle music scenes. The album has been released through the label Web of Mimicry and is available right now. Please check out Orange Tulip Conspiracy’s self- titled debut album featuring heavily produced tracks and densely packed orchestrations. Taking the listener on a journey through an extremely eclectic musical mind Orange Tulip Conspiracy is a must have release of 2008.
So please go to webofmimicry. com for more information and to order the record. You can also pick up the record at the Secret Chiefs 3 merch booth on their current U.S. tour.”
A double DVD featuring Tawd Dorenfeld’s newest creation, a stop-motion animation called Aylaqruh:hurqalyA along with the full show from the Secret Chiefs 3 live at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco filmed on the 3rd of June 2007 is to be released through Web of Mimicry later this year. The film also features the SC3 live as the soundtrack.
Based on the trailers this looks like it should be a very interesting release. Tawd is also responsible for the dark film The Anna Cabrini Chronicles.
“They always told us if we would hang out with the radio people here more, we’d get more attention,” Buzz recalls. “That’s just jive! You mean I have to hang out at some coke party with a bunch of dumb-asses in order to get them interested in our band? Wrong guy. Drop us now, please.”
Mike’s appearance on the Metalocalypse show originally scheduled to air on July 21st has been postponed until August 3rd and 10th. Official word from Ipecac:
“Hey Metalocalypse fans! The new episodes featuring our own Mike Patton were moved to August 3 & August 10th.
Hopefully, you are already a fan of the amazing cartoon on Adult Swim, metalocalypse, if you are not, get over to your youtubing and watch some of the very clever metal episodes. Well make sure you tune in on August 3rd & 10th at midnight for the guest appearance of our very own Mike Patton , playing the crucial role of reformed rocker Rikki Kix. That is on the Cartoon Network. You will be hooked on one of the best things you can find on TV.”
“I just did a make-up session where they were getting into the latter stages of the game, and lines have changed and things like that. It was much more sound effect type work. Like, “Imagine yourself falling from a 30-story building. Now imagine yourself tripping. Now imagine yourself getting hit by a lead pipe in the head.” And, you know, kind of improvising on the fly. That was pretty fun.”
On the first Bungle Album:
“Our first record was kind of a culmination of our teenage years. It’s all in there: pornography, videogames, death metal, and then some other leanings that came to us later, like some sound design stuff and a little bit of improv, some more compositional chops. Every record we made basically summed up five or 10 years of frustration.”
On Mondo Cane:
“What I did was I put a band together, like a 10-piece band, and I rehearsed them to death. Most of them are people my age, and yeah, they know this music very well or at least they know of it. What I did was I twisted the arrangements up to kind of make them my own. This stuff in some ways is kind of sacred and you don’t just wanna karaoke it. You don’t want to just play it A to Z. It’s an exciting prospect. So I did that and then we found an orchestra there in central Italy. I had some friends write some string arrangements and orchestral parts out for me. We did several shows there, and now it’s kind of growing beyond that. We’re working with local orchestras in different countries.”
On the Fantomas hiatus:
“It’s slowed down a little bit because we’ve gotten distracted with other things, but I’ve started writing a new record. It’s gonna be a bit of a stretch for us. I want to try to make an all-electronic record. I’m trying to figure out how to do that, the practicalities of doing that. So I don’t think it will be out probably for another year, but the band is still very much in my mind.”
On Guitar Hero/Rock Band:
“If someone can do something creative with it, I’d buy it in a second. I mean, would you go see a band of 10-year-old kids playing original music on Rock Band? I would. I’m not saying I’ll like it, but I definitely would go see it.”
