The Crucible Tracklist and info from Tzadik

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

John Zorn’s latest installment featuring the Moonchild crew Trevor Dunn, Joey Baron and Mike Patton, titled The Crucible, is due for release December the 9th. I have already pre-ordered this baby ;) More info:

The legendary Moonchild trio returns for another intense journey into the worlds of magic, alchemy and witchcraft. Following one of Zorn’s true masterpieces Six Litanies for Heliogabalus, this fourth volume streamlines and simplifies the music with new melodic elements bringing Zorn’s sax and the lyricism of Masada into the power and structural complexity of the patented Moonchild sound. With Patton using his prodigious voice to sing melodies in addition to his preverbal screams and howls, The Crucible is another bold step from mad alchemist John Zorn. Including special guest guitarist Marc Ribot on one Led Zeppelin influenced track, this is a rocking new installment to the Moonchild-Astronome-Heliogabalus legacy.

Orange Tulip Conspiracy Tour Dates

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Official release:

Orange Tulip Conspiracy
hello folks,

we figured we’d tip of those of you who are on the west coast of the United States to a tour you might want to check out. It’s Orange Tulip Conspiracy, which is Jason Schimmel’s (part time SC3 bassist and full time friend) project, who also have a CD out on Mimicry Recordings. We’ll let their press release take it from here, but check this stuff out: Jason’s music is great, and the people in his band are amazing — for some reason they didn’t list the bands they are playing with, but I know some of them are excellent: for example, they’re playing with the excellent Diminished Men in Seattle and Japanoise Elephants in SF. Look up who’s on the bill in your town.
Their press release:

Orange Tulip Conspiracy is heading out on tour to promote a brand new record. Commencing in Seattle and ending in San Francisco, the tour will have 8 shows running down the west coast of the United States. OTC will feature some new and old faces associated with the Estradasphere scene. The live incarnation will feature Jason Schimmel (guitar), John Whooley (sax, keys), Dan Robbins (upright and electric bass), Zach Cline (guitar), and Lee Smith (drums). Jason has played with John and Lee in Estradasphere, and Dan Robbins is an accomplished and highly sought-after bassist in his own right from the central coast of California.

An Ipecac Update on Mike Patton and the Qemists

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Mike Patton lends vocals on Qemists new 12”

The Qemists are a three man crew from Brighton and between them they have worked in every musical capacity available, from remixers to live sound, for the likes of Coldcut, Basement Jaxx, Dreadzone, Kano, Lady Sovereign, as well as many of the biggest names in drum n bass. You heard right, it’s that Mike Patton on vocals. The mastermind behind Ipecac Records and groups such as Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Tomahawk, Peeping Tom and of course Faith No More.

If crossing genres between rock music and club music was the only task The Qemists had ever set themselves, their work would be done with their new single. When living legend Mike Patton heard “Lost Weekend” he offered his considerable talents on the spot. And not since the days of Faith No More has he delivered such a raw, unadulterated piece of rock vocallry.

Delivering the kind of adrenalin rush which the best of drum & bass and rock music always share in common, “Lost Weekend” is an instant classic.
