Happy Birthday Ipecac Recordings

gronk

werckman and patton small Happy Birthday Ipecac RecordingsIpecac Recordings has always been good at throwing a party. Their Halloween and New Years bashes bring fans from all over the globe. Although I don’t think the former has occurred since the unpleasantness involving Carl Cox. =/ So this year Ipecac turns 10 with strangely little fanfare….

“As many of you know, on April 1st, Ipecac Recordings turns 10 years  old. We don’t have any big party to invite you to, or a special  release to give you or sell you. We simply would like to thank you for  your support. It is amazing that we have survived 10 years. In the  beginning, we were not even sure we wanted to be a “real” label. Some  would say we aren’t. We did not have lofty expectations, we just  wanted to put out some Cds that we liked that might not fit in
anywhere else. We have covered a lot of ground in 10 years and hope to  continue the journey for another 10.

This would not have been possible without three VERY important groups  of people.

1) We are eternally grateful to all the people that have worked with  us behind the scenes. The employees, the interns, the sales people and
distributors around the world that we have worked with, the  publicists, etc. This has truly been a team effort and we have been
lucky to have worked with some great team players.

2) YOU! We are also beyond grateful for our loyal and patient fanbase.  Despite not really having a sound, or look or ever being considered  “hip”, we have developed a strong identity thanks to you, our  supporters. By buying Cds, shirts, tickets etc. you enable us to keep  going. We know that no one loves everything we do, but it is nice to  see so many willing to try things with us. We take nothing for granted  and appreciate everything you do for us. It is not easy to survive in  this economy and in this often times hideous industry.

3) Finally, it really is all about the artists. Damn, it is cool for  us to look at our discography (on our updated website!). So many cool  releases. They are all important and special to us. The artists we  have worked with are not only talented but damn fine people too. That  makes all the work we put into it worthwhile. Our artists are our  friends, I can honestly say. Not every record has sold a ton, but we  measure success by looking beyond the accounting sheets. You all  deserve platinum records!!!! THANKS for letting us work with you.

Ok, that’s it for now. Happy Birthday to us all!!!
Greg, Mike & Shawn”

Happy birthday Ipecac, thanks for all the great music you have brought to us over the last 10 years.

Sterowarning Republish Interesting Patton Interview

gronk

Stereo Warning FNM Republish

“Will there ever be a Faith No More reunion?
Well, not with me. I feel like when something’s really done you have to have the courage and the strength to walk away from it and admit that it’s done. We ended it at the right time and everyone’s moved on and they’re happy.”

An Intimate Few Minutes with Bar McKinnon

gronk

Exclusive to stubbadub! A short Q&A with Bar McKinnon:

What music had you been listening to while putting together Umlaut?

I was listening to Jennifer Gentle, Animal Collective, Dillinger Escape plan, The Blood Brothers, Cocteau Twins, Aphex Twin, Deerhoof, and Fleet Foxes

Are you ever suprised by the people who show up to your gigs? What kinds of people do you think Umlaut would appeal to?

No, not really surprised. They’re usually kinda nerdy types, (kinda like myself..!)but i am surprised when females are in attendance (..should i admit this..??!?)I think Umlaut should appeal to anybody with hungry ears, an open mind and a love of melody.

Your ideal gig would consist of which band mates? (dead or alive)

My ideal gig would be a goddamn Bungle reunion!

Do you ever miss Mr Bungle? What were the dynamics of a band of musical geniuses?

Obviously i miss that band because it was the single most visionary, talented group of musicians i’ve ever been lucky enough to play with..

The dynamic was pretty simple. Everbody wrote tunes and brought them to the table. Ideas were thrown around freely, suggestions, improvements made with no ego interference..
Then there were also roles specific to our instruments. Patton was usually the alpha male but Trey could hold his own and throw his weight around as well too. So there was a bit of head-butting but the best interests of the music were always served.

I guess i have my doubts about as to whether it would ever happen or not. This might just be self-preservation so i don’t waste time hoping for the impossible. And no, i haven’t brought it up when last speaking with those guys recently. Everybody just seems to have too many other things going on at the moment to be bothered. But i wouldn’t necessarily rule it out either. (It’s too easy to be a naysayer).

Thanks heaps to Gerry for her work putting this interview together and of course thanks to Bar for taking the time to answer the questions.

Secret Chiefs 3 Article in New York Press

gronk

http://www.nypress.com/article-19570-24_7-music.html

An excert on Mr Bungle’s motives:

“There was no ideological objective,” he points out. “We hated punks. Revolutionbased political music? We just laughed at that stuff. We were seriously promoting deconstructionist insanity. We grew out of it a little bit, but for our first four demos and our first album, we were coming out of the pit of a severe form of ill-will anarchism.”

Stubbadub News Round Up Thursday

gronk

Hey party people, it’s almost the weekend and to help get you through the working week here’s a few little tidbits of news not worthy of their own posts. A new Faith No More news site has now opened for business, FNM 2.0. Bad news on the Mondo Cane front, word is the album release has been pushed back till at least November. A nice review of the new Fantastic Terrific Munkle album, Music to Dance To, at dBmagazine. A new Kids of Whidney High comic book is due to hit streets shortly (more info on this to come soon).

A new mexican interview with Mike (headsup, it’s in spanish). An interesting excert:

Coinciding with his concert with Zu in the country, Mike Patton has spoken to Mexican newspaper La Jornada and given his first public comment on the Faith No More reunion. He said: “I wasn’t ready before, I had too many things to get rid of that I had inside of me. Now I am a different person, I have my own thing. I feel more comfortable about my past now, compared to my previous attitude, the “the fuck with this” attitude I used to have..well, in a way I still have. The article also mentions that Faith No More will likely play in Mexico and South America later this year or early next year.

Also keep an eye on the blog for the Umlaut debut album give-a-way (sorry for the delay, I’m so slack I know), my munkle album review, and possibly a Munkle album give-a-way as well (fingers crossed).

BTW, I got to see Munkle last night at the Basement in Sydney for their album launch. so good…..

On that note, here’s a goatee with a life of it’s own:
