Zorn’s Cobra at Yoshi’s: Spruance, Patton, Dunn
Just missing the aussie contingent, Bar Mckinnon and Danny Heifetz to make this a full blown Bungle shindig. Maybe one day (soon?) I can dream……

Looks like things are winding down in the Faith No More camp as signs of things returning to business as usual begin to appear.
Billy has just announced the creation of a non Faith No More news outlet via twitter, specifically for Kool Arrow Records, Bill’s own label:
“Guys, just starting a twitter acct for my non-FNM related, musical activities. Good stuff coming. http://twitter.com/KoolarrowRec“
“Upgrade of koolarrow.com in progress…first release of year: Flattbush ‘Otomatik Attak!’ Sept. 28. Blistering punk rock Tagalog power.”
Forgot to post this the other day when the line up leaked, but the Melvins will be making the trek down under next February to join the annual Australian music festival Soundwave, which hosted both Isis and Faith No More earlier this year.
Last time the Melvins were in Oz, Trevor Dunn filled in the bass duties. I’m guessing it will be the full entourage this time including the big biz boys, which should be interesting.
I’m hoping there will be Melvins solo shows as I really don’t want to have to go to soundwave

Trevor Dunn contributes his bassey goodness to yet another John Zorn album, this one titled “The Goddess – Music for the Ancient of Days”, released recently via Zorn’s Tzadik label.
The album is a very relaxed trip and follows on nicely from O’o and the dreamers, even though it is not a continuation of the romantic series.
“Continuing in the mystical tradition of In Search of the Miraculous, The Goddess is a stunning collection of Odes in celebration of Women in Myth, Magick and Ritual throughout the Ages.
Expanding the ever-growing Alhambra ensemble with the searing guitar of Marc Ribot and the evocative harp of Carol Emanuel, the music takes on a lush orchestral sound and more than a touch of the feminine.
Blending an hypnotic minimalist propulsion with the complex cinematic sweep of Zorn’s fast changing extended file card compositions, the music develops from moment to moment in ways both surprising and inevitable. Breathtaking and hauntingly beautiful, The Goddess is a lyrical treat for your ears!”

A whole stack of interesting stuff going on over there at Yoshi’s San Fran, including what appears to be three parts Bungle appearing on stage for the first time in almost a decade… Reconciliation? Reunion? Thank you Zorn!
“Native New Yorker and enfant terrible John Zorn has had very deep ties with San Francisco since his first visit here in 1974. His yearly visits have deepened his connection with local musicians and venues and many of his closest collaborators still live right here in the Bay Area.
This special three night series showcases him performing with many of San Francisco’s best musicians in improvisational units, and includes the world premiere performance of his popular tribute to the Bay area ALHAMBRA LOVE SONGS, his first ever duo concert with California’s Guru extraordinaire Terry Riley and of course his legendary game piece COBRA, featuring an all-star Bay Area lineup.”

On June 19 Mike Patton returned to the Holland Festival to perform Luciano Berio’s Laborintus II. Thanks to the MP Chile community we now have download links to a DVD version of the show:
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 (megaupload)
I haven’t come across this before in my travels, apologies if it is old news. You can download a ‘DVD’ of the 2007 Mike Patton and Christian Fennesz show in Switzerland. Patton Archivo has all the info and download links.
