Lovers of Italian film and music everywhere will be delighted to learn that Rome, the lovechild of Italian composer Daniele Luppi and Danger Mouse is well and truly on its way. Fans of Luppi will rejoice in the spaghetti-western feel of the album, though newcomers will find much to appreciate with the likes of Jack White and Norah Jones featuring heavily on the album. Where Jack White penned lyrics to three tracks himself, the sultry tones of Miss Jones can be heard on a further three. The music written by Danger Mouse reflects his love of Ennio Morricone and Italian film music, and the collaboration with Luppi could not have worked better.
Authenticity was key for the music makers on this entirely analog record, with Luppi and Danger Mouse sourcing vintage equipment from the Italian city where the project gets its name. Travelling to Rome together, the two also amassed a number of the original recording musicians from the Ennio Morricone’s score for Good the Bad and The Ugly, among others, many of whom had not worked together in several decades. The album was recorded in Rome’s Forum Music Village studios, which helped replicate the practices used by Morricone in his work with director Sergio Leone.
“The studio was a beautiful thing” says Luppi. “It sits underneath a neo-classical church and is carved out of an ancient catacomb. The space is huge. It has an echo chamber and a room full of vintage tapes. The vibe is really inspiring.” via LexRecords.com
After nearly five years of careful planning by the American musician and producer, Danger Mouse, the much-anticipated album is due out in March via Lex, EMI and Parlophone Records, but samples can be heard HERE

C/o Patton’s official FB. Did you guys pre-order? Limited edition and all that…. Can’t wait for mine, now all I need is a good turntable =/

Totally forgot to post about this but Wanderlusting, author of that excellent Billy Gould interview on CoS took some great pics of the recent Mondo Cane Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival.

Six months after the release of Mike Patton‘s Mondo Cane album and on the back of the bands first U.S show (with special guest Trey Spruance), the vinyl version of the album will be released.
Limited to 5000 units worldwide, the album is available November 22 and will more than likely sell out fast, so grab a pre-order if you’re keen for a copy.
“For all the hard core fans the vinyl version of Mike Patton‘s Mondo Cane has arrived. This will be a triple gatefold diecut on 180gram vinyl, limited to 5000 worldwide.
Recorded at a series of European performances, this album features traditional Italian pop songs as well as a rendition of Ennio Morricone’s Deep Down . Sung in Italian, Patton worked with a full orchestra and choir to create the unique new sound.”
Still waiting for that Mondo Cane DVD, hoping it still sees the light of day!

And with a pleasant surprise…Mr Spruance hiding somewhere in the band strummin on the ol’ geetor. Looks like it was an amazing show!

Ipecac have just announced that Mike Patton‘s Mondo Cane will be playing at this years Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival, a free festival help in Golden Gate park, San Francisco.
According to Ipecac, Mondo Cane are due to play October 3rd on the Star stage right. This will be the first U.S show for Mondo Cane and I’m sure a lot of our American friends are hoping for lots more dates. (I’m still pinning my hopes on the Sydney Opera House Mondo Cane show coming true that Mike mentioned to me)
