The Melvins will be releasing their new album ‘Freak Puke’ on the 5th June via Ipecac.

Aside from the awesome cover art what makes this extra special is that it is a studio recording by the ‘Melvins Lite’ version of the band featuring Buzz, Dale & Trevor Dunn on bass.

“That brings me up to June which I can’t talk too much about right now nor the months that follow because it’s secret and probably completely insane, but let’s just say that I plan on setting a world record this year. And I’m not even fucking kidding.”

According to Trevor Dunn’s gig calendar on his website, he is due to play with “Zorn’s Dreamers, Electric Masada, The Secret Chiefs 3, and Medeski Martin and Wood (subbing for Wood)” at Zorn fest, Lincoln Center NYC on March 30.

Not sure if this means he will be playing with SC3 or on the same bill as, but it’s great to see him due to play with Secret Chiefs again after all these years (and the semi-estrangement).

Trevor Dunn played a show recently in Seattle with the Nels Cline Singers as part of the Is This Jazz? Fest. CoS writer WanderLusting managed to make it to the show a blogged a review with some very nice photos of the show included.

Good news everyone! (If you live in South America). Jean (Umlaut’s manager) tweeted a very interesting “Big announcement”……. a Secret Chiefs 3, Umlaut and Madlove tour through South America to take place August of this year.

Details are few at best, but check out the tweet for the hard evidence and I’ll do my best to keep you all updated with any news.

Trevor – I used to have this theory that our instruments were prisons for the song trapped inside & it was our duty to wrestle (practice) & overcome this cumbersome entombment.  But now I think that’s kind of a dark analogy.  I love my bass.  Some of them have traveled the world with me & they are always there for me.  Without that ally I would be nothing.

Trevor Dunn contributes his bassey goodness to yet another John Zorn album, this one titled “The Goddess – Music for the Ancient of Days”, released recently via Zorn’s Tzadik label.

The album is a very relaxed trip and follows on nicely from O’o and the dreamers, even though it is not a continuation of the romantic series.

A whole stack of interesting stuff going on over there at Yoshi’s San Fran, including what appears to be three parts Bungle appearing on stage for the first time in almost a decade… Reconciliation? Reunion? Thank you Zorn!

“I still work with John Zorn quite a bit and I think there are two recordings I’ve done with him that are on their way to release.  One is The Dreamers – our third release plus a new group I think he’s calling White Magic which is a really strange sort of chamber jazz project with harp, piano, vibraphone.  I play electric bass on it and it’s a really interesting project.  We spent three days in the studio recording it and it crosses the line between Steve Reich minimalism and ‘70s fusion mixed with chamber music.  It’s a really interesting project! “

The latest issue of Rock-a-rolla magazine has a new interview with Trevor Dunn talking to him about his latest band Madlove. They posted a snippet of the article on their home page which paints a rather dire picture regarding any hopes of a Bungle reunion ever happening:

“Faith No More have done it, but those expecting a Mr. Bungle reunion shouldn’t hold their breath – unless, of course, they can hold it for a really, really long time. “I don’t think it’s gonna happen unfortunately” bassist Trevor Dunn told Rock-A-Rolla. “I mean, I say unfortunately on behalf of people who want it to happen – I actually don’t want it to happen.” Dunn, who recently released the debut album with his brand new band MadLove, talked to us about his current projects and the joys of playing “traditional rock music”. Check out the full interview in the latest issue of Rock-A-Rolla Magazine, out now.”

Although Trevor does not seem interested in a Bungle reunion, Bar and Danny have both expressed interest in working with the bungle guys again one day, so anything is possible.
