John Zorn’s Follow Up to The Dreamers: O’o
Holy Crap! How did I miss this? Just released on Tzadik is the follow up to 2008′s “The Dreamers“ simply titled O’o and it features our good buddy Trevor Dunn on bass!
“Named for an extinct Hawaiian bird whose delightful song will sadly never be sung again, O’o is the exotic follow up to The Dreamers, one of Zorn’s most popular and appealing musical projects. Featuring the same dynamic band of masters from Zorn’s inner circle, O’o presents twelve more lyrical and adventurous instrumentals combining world music, surf, exotica, soundtracks, easy listening, minimalism and more into a fabulous and exciting new music. Beautifully packaged in original artwork by Chippy, this is charming and adventurous music passionately performed by a downtown super group.”
Featuring:
Cyro Baptista: Percussion
Joey Baron: Drums
Trevor Dunn: Bass
Marc Ribot: Guitar
Jamie Saft: Piano, Organ
Kenny Wollesen: Vibraphone
Tracklist:
1. Miller’s Crake
2. Akialoa
3. Po’o'uli
4. Little Bittern
5. Mysterious Starling
6. Laughing Owl
7. Archaeopteryx
8. Solitaire
9. Piopio

I wouldn’t say you missed it… it’s only been out a week.
Unless you mean you didn’t know it was in the hopper. I check Tzadik’s “upcoming page” after each month of releases, as it tends to get updated around the same time.
Great stuff. I dig this one a bit more than The Gift and The Dreamers.

Cool. I love the gentle side of Zorn and all of this series. Thanks for noticing!
Random thought – if only this side of Zorn could combine with Patton on vocals ala Mondo Cane style (with, perhaps, contribution from Kaada). Now that would be lusher than Rachel Welch!!

@BM – that’s a gold comment!
I’d read about this a while back but I didn’t realise Dunn was on it. Maybe the personnel wasn’t listed…

@Dan: yeah I didn’t realize it was in the can! I’m usually on top of that….. Although it was a pleasant surprise. Can’t wait to hear this. I love this series and if you reckon it’s better than dreamers/gift then it’s going to be great!
