Zorn, Spruance, Patton, Dunn, Winant, Frith, Timb, Yoshi’s, Cobra!

gronk

A whole stack of interesting stuff going on over there at Yoshi’s San Fran, including what appears to be three parts Bungle appearing on stage for the first time in almost a decade… Reconciliation? Reunion? Thank you Zorn!

“Native New Yorker and enfant terrible John Zorn has had very deep ties with San Francisco since his first visit here in 1974. His yearly visits have deepened his connection with local musicians and venues and many of his closest collaborators still live right here in the Bay Area.

This special three night series showcases him performing with many of San Francisco’s best musicians in improvisational units, and includes the world premiere performance of his popular tribute to the Bay area ALHAMBRA LOVE SONGS, his first ever duo concert with California’s Guru extraordinaire Terry Riley and of course his legendary game piece COBRA, featuring an all-star Bay Area lineup.”

    • Coox Says:

Wait, wait, wait… Is the Cobra line-up for real?

Spruance, Patton and Dunn on the same stage?!

Did I miss something? I thought that “some bridges” were burned down forever, and that this could never, ever be a possibility?

    • Sean Graham Says:

You left one surprising name from your headline… Spruance. To me that name, mentioned in the same breath as Patton as part of Cobra, is the most interesting one…

    • MC303 Says:

Is this the first time Mike & Trey will share a stage since Bungle?

    • Mike Says:

Holy shit! Dunn, Spruance, Winant and Patton together on one stage?!!! Monumental, dude!!!

    • ChrisD(from CT) Says:

Nice. Maybe Mike and Trey can at least patch things up.

    • ?.74 Says:

WOW! lucky those who will be there!

    • bister mungle Says:

Hang on… hold the phone! Trey and Mike aren’t together in one of these line-ups are they? I’d be very surprised. I have always been kinda perplexed by their relationship and I assume they are still on the rocky territory that they’ve been on far years. Zorn is of course still in good terms with them both… but have they patched things up??…

    • Sacrificialpoet Says:

I think they just might have. Wasn’t Trey at one of the Warfield shows?

    • Timb Says:

Trey Spruance? WTF will be like a mini-Bungle reunion going on…

    • gronk Says:

      Sean, fixed.

If these guys patch it up, I know Danny and Bar are keen to get Bungle back together….. Who knows? Can we actually think there is hope of this happening?

    • Eric Says:

      Niiiiiiiiiice

    • zero point field Says:

someone get Danny and Clinton (and maybe Theo) on a plane and onto the stage at Yoshi’s SF on August 28th! :) see you guys there!

    • Andrew Says:

God, has anyone seen or heard of Theo doing anything since he left Mr Bungle after making Disco Volante, it’s like he totally lost his shit and disappeared off the face of the earth.

    • Andrew Says:

Shit I changed my website on here and it gives me a new icon.

    • mindbait Says:

apparently he runs a business, something to do with computers like software or something… i dunno

    • Andrew Says:

      Nice, least it’s something.

    • hyperbole11 Says:

i’ve seen spruance at recent san francisco fantomas/faith no more shows. apparently they’ve patched some things up.

my tickets are purchased. i hope to see some of you guys at yoshi’s!

    • Thomas Oak Says:

@Hyperbole11 and all other guys going to the 27th august concert:

Do you think you could approach Patton or Spruance one way or another and ask *THAT* question again ? Who knows, spirit of the day might lead to one very great decision…

    • mindbait Says:

or it might lead to the person asking the question being bitterly and remorselessly abused by patton or spruance or whoever they ask

    • ChrisD(from CT) Says:

Yes, it could be that they are just both professionals and can endure being in the same room for a night as a favor to their mutual friend.
