Mr Bungle Disco Volante Vinyl Reissue
How odd…..some Mr Bungle news? Mr. Bungle’s Disco Volante is being reissued by Plain Recordings around July or August this year along with the original 7 incher accompaniment.
Amazon Description:
“US 180 Gram Vinyl Pressing. ONE OF THE MOST UNCOMPROMISING AND ADVENTUROUS MAJOR LABEL RELEASES OF THE ’90S, MR BUNGLE’S SECOND ALBUM, ORIGINALLY RELEASED IN 1995, AN ‘ALTERNATIVE’ RECORD ONLY IN THE VAGUEST SENSE OF THE WORD. INCORPORATING DEATH METAL, FREE JAZZ, EXPERIMENTAL ELECTRONICA, AND AMBIENT SOUNDTRACKS, ALONG WITH MIKE PATTON‘S OUTRAGEOUS VOCAL STYLE, ‘DISCO VOLANTE’ IS PROBABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT AND GROUNDBREAKING RELEASE OF PATTON‘S STORIED CAREER, AND THAT’S SAYING A LOT.”

Is the included 7″ the initial “Secret Chiefs Trio” offering? Or something different?

I couldn’t comprehend this album when I first heard it, but gradually began to understand it a bit more and really “hear it” over a few listens. As with all music that requires a bit of work and is not instantly accessible, it is usually the most rewarding. It would be interesting to hear it on vinyl.

I never really considered it in that light before, but it is an interesting point, but it was a radical departure from the 1st album.
‘Desert Search For Techno Allah’ is still one of the finest tracks ever. Try shouting for that at a Fantomas or Tomahawk gig!

yeah it was definitely a grower for me too. but it’s one of my favourite albums. as you said the ones that take a bit of time to get in to usually end up being the best.

Yeah, the pre-order for the green vinyl was actually in December-ish but I didn’t know about your site until the day I made that post. Otherwise I would have posted the link back then.
I just ordered another one because I have to have two copies after actually seeing it. Not to sound sappy but it really is breath taking. I have the original vinyl and nothing against it or anything but I can’t imagine a more perfect format for Disco Volante other than this green vinyl. It’s magic.
I didn’t realize the non-green version does not come with the 7″, which also factored into me buying a second copy.
And it took two weeks to get here so haunting your mailbox as I did will just frustrate you. It is totally worth the wait.

I have that reissue, and let me tell you it’s a pretty normal packaging, nothing special, and IT DOESN’T HAVE PLATYPUS NOR THE 7 INCH RECORD. And it appears (I haven’t listened to it yet) that the song after Carry Stress in the Jaw isn’t in a different groove as it was originally. The one featuring the 7 inch record is the green vinyl, limited to 1000 copies.

Yup, I know.
Just wanted to make sure that anyone who clicks that Amazon link doesn’t end up buying it and then receiving something they didn’t expect

Yeah good call. That links been dead for a while. It was pulled from amazon due to major delays. I should update the post and link to the green. Although that might be sold out by now

I don’t see it dead, but well.
I was pretty disappointed to realise the vinyl I bought at my local record store didn’t have the “treats” the original vinyl had. But now I see there’s other version with them, damn!
