“Live at the Great American Music Hall captures Secret Chiefs 3 in concert with what many consider to be the best of their many line-ups in 14 years of playing.
Shot in 2007 at one of the band’s favorite haunts, in San Francisco, this DVD does justice to a group whose live energy usually exceeds the recorded medium. Renowned for their ultra-elaborate CD productions, Secret Chiefs 3 has also garnered a reputation for the power and immediacy of their live shows. Their fanbase has swelled in recent years and grown accustomed to this live incarnation (the Secret Chiefs 3 bootleg scene is thriving), and they demand an official release! Not just some audience-hand-cam and stereo-mic-job thing, this DVD boasts a pro six-camera shoot with live sound mixed by Billy Anderson, with the multi-channel outs mixed for DVD by Trey Spruance and Randall Dunn (producer of Earth, SUNNO))), Kinski, Wolves in the Throne Room, etc). And it comes with a really nice six-panel gatefold digi-pack with original artwork. At the show, Secret Chiefs 3 performs a set of both familiar and as-yet-unreleased music. The line-up includes Ches Smith (Xiu Xiu, Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog), Shahzad Ismaili (who also plays with Graham Haynes, Laurie Anderson, and Tom Waits), Timb Harris (Estradasphere), Rich Doucette, Peijman Kouretchian, and Jai Young Kim.
Live at the Great American Music Hall DVD also includes an award-winning and seriously dimensionally altered 80-minute stop-motion animation feature film directed by Tawd Dorenfeld that uses Secret Chiefs 3′s live show as a soundtrack.”

Wow, bring it on!!!! This sounds supreme.
Any news of a European/UK release date at all?

hmm not sure to be honest. I’m struggling to find the faxed head dvd locally so I’m just going to order them from WoM. don’t think worldwide distro is top priority =/
either that or stores just arent interested in the (quality) music.

You are so right Gronk. Even the ‘Live At Brixton Academy’ and ‘Who Cares A Lot’ DVD’s have never had an official release in Europe/UK for us nostalgia freaks.
I shall try the WoM website. I have been burned before in buying region 1 DVD’s on the net before, which are about as much use as a set of ladders made out of jelly in Europe. Never again!

*DROOL*
most DVD players are multi-region, y’know. if you google your model you’ll probably find a way to unlock the region 1 capability. worked for me.

i think this is region free anyway so you should be ok

Cheers my portly chum.
On the Amazon advert it clearly stated that it was a region 1 DVD only, but I shall follow Portly Jim’s advice first of all.
There is no way I want to miss out on seeing this. In the past 6 months or so I have bought the entire SC3 back catalogue (aside from ‘Book Of Horizons’ which I bought when it was released) and I am now totally hooked. I tried rehab by watching mainstream stuff like MTV2 but it didn’t work and I admit I have a problem.
In fat I will have another fix shortly. My ipod will be blasting SC3 at lunchtime!

i think the mimicry listing says it’s region free though.
re SC3 you got the three 7 inchers? ive been hooked on them lately. need new sc3 though! been ages since BOH.

I’ve only got the standard CD albums Gronk. Amazon has made a few bob from me recently!
I know the 7″ are quite hard to attain. What is on them?
You must have the ‘Xaphan:Book Of Angels’ album collaboration with John Zorn which was out last year surely?

want me to upload them for you somewhere? they have a mix of the different “bands” on them.
yeah i love xaphan, SC3′s interpretations of John Zorn, gotta love it. the album sounds AMAZING on headphones btw.
