The next installment of John Zorn’s Moonchild series and the follow-up to 2008′s The Crucible, Ipsissimus has just been released via Tzadik. Featuring Mike Patton, John Zorn, Trevor Dunn, Joey Baron and Marc Ribot, the Moonchild series is in my opinion one of the most interesting collections of music to appear on the label, and Ipsissimus is sure to not disappoint:
“Weaving sonic dramas around the legacies of Magick and Alchemy, Moonchild is one of Zorn’s most intense and powerful projects. Active since 2006, Moonchild has released four CDs speaking directly to young, open minded and curious music lovers around the world, and their newest recording is the most varied and driving to date.
Nine new duos, trios and quartets swirling with melodic and rhythmic invention featuring the searing guitar of Marc Ribot, the magical vocals of Mike Patton and Zorn’s manic sax with the astounding Dunn-Baron rhythm section. Ipsissimus is the fifth surprising installment in the remarkable Moonchild legacy.”

John Zorn’s latest installment featuring the Moonchild crew Trevor Dunn, Joey Baron and Mike Patton, titled The Crucible, is due for release December the 9th. I have already pre-ordered this baby
More info:
The legendary Moonchild trio returns for another intense journey into the worlds of magic, alchemy and witchcraft. Following one of Zorn’s true masterpieces Six Litanies for Heliogabalus, this fourth volume streamlines and simplifies the music with new melodic elements bringing Zorn’s sax and the lyricism of Masada into the power and structural complexity of the patented Moonchild sound. With Patton using his prodigious voice to sing melodies in addition to his preverbal screams and howls, The Crucible is another bold step from mad alchemist John Zorn. Including special guest guitarist Marc Ribot on one Led Zeppelin influenced track, this is a rocking new installment to the Moonchild-Astronome-Heliogabalus legacy.

Following in the footsteps of John Zorn’s whimsical and beautiful “The Gift” is the soon to be released album “The Dreamers
“. Due out March 31 2008, the album features Trevor Dunn on bass along with a host of other familiar faces:
Joey Baron: Drums
Trevor Dunn: Bass
Marc Ribot: Guitars
Jamie Saft: Keyboards
Kenny Wollesen: Vibes

From the Tzadik site:
“Continuing in the tradition of his popular album The Gift, Zorn again combines a lifetime of musical passions—world music, movie soundtracks, jazz, minimalism, exotica, funk, surf rock and more—to create a vibrant and multifaceted album of instrumental fairy tales. Masterfully performed by the all-star players from Electric Masada, The Dreamers is a project of breathtaking variety and will attract listeners of all backgrounds and ages. Bathed in a lush package created by the acclaimed artist and exclusive Tzadik graphic designer Chippy, and accompanied by a sheet of collectable character stickers, The Dreamersis one of Zorn’s most beautiful and appealing projects. Seductive lyricism, hypnotic grooves, catchy hooks and romantic moods from this genre-bashing master of surprise.”
