New Mike Patton Interview at AlarmPress

gronk

Nice big article on Mike over at alarmpress with a few updates on his current and future plans:

“Between the second Mondo Cane installment and another tour, Patton isn’t done exploring. His restless nature won’t allow for that. And like usual, he and Ipecac partner Greg Werckman have a full schedule of upcoming releases, including a soundtrack by Daniele Luppi and a new album by experimental-rock studio project The Books of Knots.

And after the possibility of even more tour dates from the reunited Faith No More, Patton’s commitments, to be finished in no particular order, include a film score for the adaptation of The Solitude of Prime Numbers, an electronic Fantômas album, another Tomahawk release, the Crudo collaboration with Dan the Automator, and another Moonchild disc with the Zorn crew.

Moonchild Follow-up Ipsissimus Released

gronk

The next installment of John Zorn’s Moonchild series and the follow-up to 2008′s The Crucible, Ipsissimus has just been released via Tzadik. Featuring Mike Patton, John Zorn, Trevor Dunn, Joey Baron and Marc Ribot, the Moonchild series is in my opinion one of the most interesting collections of music to appear on the label, and Ipsissimus is sure to not disappoint:

“Weaving sonic dramas around the legacies of Magick and Alchemy, Moonchild is one of Zorn’s most intense and powerful projects. Active since 2006, Moonchild has released four CDs speaking directly to young, open minded and curious music lovers around the world, and their newest recording is the most varied and driving to date.

Nine new duos, trios and quartets swirling with melodic and rhythmic invention featuring the searing guitar of Marc Ribot, the magical vocals of Mike Patton and Zorn’s manic sax with the astounding Dunn-Baron rhythm section. Ipsissimus is the fifth surprising installment in the remarkable Moonchild legacy.”

Richard Foreman is one of the most important theatre directors in the world, and has been a personal hero of Zorn’s for over 30 years. These two masters of the bizarre have now collaborated on a theatre/music piece and it is opening on February 5th at the Ontological-Hysteric Theatre at St Marks in the Bowery, New York City. This is one of those things that can only happen downtown-independent of any special grants, funding, institution or administration. ASTRONOME is the intense second Moonchild CD featuring Mike Patton, Trevor Dunn and Joey Baron, and Richard Foreman’s staging of it is absolutely stunning.
