Umlaut to join Les Claypool Australian Tour

gronk

Bar Mckinnon’s Umlaut will be supporting Les Claypool on his national tour of Australia in December for the following dates:

  • Wed 2 Dec Enmore Theatre Sydney
  • Fri 4 Dec Forum Theatre Melbourne

“Bar McKinnon of Umlaut is thrilled to be supporting Les Claypool on the Sydney and Melbourne tour dates. Having toured in the ’90′s, Primus and Mr Bungle go way back,  it’s like old times!”

This will mark the first occasion that Umlaut have ventured North to Sydney, which is very pleasing for at least one fan who happens to reside in Sydney and has been begging for a Sydney show…………

This just completely got my hopes up! Damn perth for being the most isolated metropolis in the world. Enjoy you lucky S.O.Bs!

    • Sara Says:

Well it looks like Bar McKinnon kept his promise to me to come to Sydney…but I haven’t really heard that much Les Claypool. Hmmmm…decisions…

    • Sara Says:

Alright. Fuck that shit. I’m in! It’s after my HSC, it’s pre-uni and my parents are paying for my trip to NZ. I’m going!

    • Gezarie Says:

Sara have you listened to Primus? They are awesome. Les Claypool is awesome.

    • Frketson Says:

I’ve heard so much about Primus, nows the perfect time to start listening go them.

    • gronk Says:

Primus are awesome, one of my favourite bands. Les’ later solo stuff on the other hand…. Not so good. Primus-wise, start with Frizzle Fry and Sailing the Seas of cheese, or maybe just grab the best of for a taste (they can’t all be zingers).

Les’ other stuff, the best would be the Oysterhead album and the flying frog brigade stuff.

    • Sara Says:

Gezarie: I’ve heard a bit of Primus. I like it all…I don’t know why I haven’t listened to more. This will be a good reason to push myself to listen to more Les Claypool stuff.

Try looking for “Those Damn Blue Collar Tweekers” live at Woodstock ’94, magnificent.

    • Jim Bowen (Mark's dad) Says:

Completely agree Gronk. Some of Primus’ stuff is great (particularly the earlier stuff) but some of it is pretty dire (duets with Fred Durst anyone?). His last solo album is a huge heap of shite.

Anyone with an inkling for his non-Primus projects should check out the ’5 Gallons Of Diesel’ DVD which features segments from all of them. My favourite is Bucketful Of Bernie Brains, featuring Buckethead, Bernie Worrell and Brain.

And a bitching, mindblowing bass thumper to boot. This guy makes Flea look like Milhouse from the Simpsons!

    • Gezarie Says:

Cheers Jim, will do just that!

    • dantheman Says:

I concur everyone. Les and Umlaut, the perfect marriage. Don’t know how much Primus will come out, but it would be worth it just to see Claypool’s fingers strum that fretless 6 string.

Gezarie, i feel your pain. I’m in Cairns. say no more.

    • gronk Says:

@wishiwastexperkins: that woodstock footage is unreal :D

    • gronk Says:

dont blame the antipop album on him Jim, he had copped a thrashing for the brown album (which i actually loved in all it’s analogue-ey goodness) and antipop was the result of that.

i still have hopes primus will become a viable touring and recording band once again one day, so good live.

the bucket of bernie brains album is good too yeah but this latest solo effort, I couldnt even finish one run through.

    • dantheman Says:

i thought antipop was a great recovery from some very unsavoury efforts. liked jim martin’s cameo.

    • Timb Says:

Primus sucks! Primus sucks! Primus sucks! :D

    • gronk Says:

@dantheman: what did you think was unsavoury? brown album?

    • gronk Says:

LOL Timb that reminds me, people interested in getting in to primus should get the live EP as well, that thing is awesome

    • Angus Says:

      Umlaut sucks! Umlaut sucks!
      Wait…
      Maybe we don’t!
      Love A.

    • Sara Says:

      No, you certainly don’t Leslie.
Got my ticket in the mail yesterday. YEEEEAAAAH!

    • Angus Says:

Sara?! Who in the heck are you?!

    • Sara Says:

Who in the heck said that you know me? You said “we” so I assumed you’re Angus E. Leslie from Umlaut.

    • Angus Says:

You’d be correct… I’m a just a little taken aback that Umlaut actually have any female fans…
You might be the only one!

    • Sara Says:

@Angus: Why’s that? There are female Mr. Bungle fans (other than me)…Why shouldn’t there be any other female Umlaut fans? You’d just never come across a female Umlaut fan I guess. Anyway, I’ve been listening to Mr. Bungle and therefore Bar McKinnon since I was 11 (I’m now 18). I’m a big fan of Bar McKinnon and that’s how I came to hear about Umlaut. I’m really looking forward to the gig at the Enmore! :)

    • gronk Says:

bungle have loads of female fans! and a lot have probably followed Bar after bungle i’m sure :)

    • Gezarie Says:

Angus, bungle aside Umlaut do have HEAPS of female fans! The pimple faced teenage boys that MB thought they attracted have long since grown up too. I know chicks all over the world who love your album.
We arent all Patton fangirls with no music sensibility you know! Sara, much respect sweetie. Been a bungle fan since I was in primary school too! At the tender age of 21 now :o )
